If you shook your head into a no, this article is for you. In this article, I am going to give a job description of eight jobs in the health fitness & sports industry that are proven to be the most satisfactory. Ready?

  1. Physical Education Teacher:
Students commonly call them as a P.E teacher or a gym teacher. These teachers usually have done a certified course in physical education or athletic training. They give theoretical and practical knowledge about fitness, health and sports to the students. Their daily schedules are decided upon the school’s syllabus pattern, but usually they take one hour class daily. They start by teaching daily good habits, proper meals, and common exercises good for their body growth. Then, they move on to training kids for numerous sports they want to participate in, including basketball, football, cricket, gymnastics, tennis etc. They also teach kids some other values like discipline, being a team player, leadership skills in sports etc. Physical Education teachers make good money and have satisfactory schedules. If along with your passion for fitness, you love kids, this job is definitely for you.

  1. Nutritionist:
A nutritionist’s job is to advise people in the matters of food and nutrition, and how it impacts their overall health. They also decide people’s daily meals, calorie intakes, dos and don’ts in matters of food etc. If people have specific chronic diseases, they prepare customized diet plans for them in that case. A diet plan of someone with obesity and someone with diabetes will have differences. Nutritionist can be of a few types: dietician-nutritionist, sports nutritionist, personal nutritionist etc. A smart nutritionist would be able to help their clients with whatever food problem they are facing. Usually, nutritionist have a certified course in diet programs, nutrition management etc. They can be self-employed or work in hospitals, clinics, spa-centres, gyms and sports clubs. This is one of the highest paying jobs in the fitness & health industry.

  1. Personal Trainer:
Being a personal trainer is the new ‘trending’ job in health & fitness industry. A personal trainer can have a varying degree of knowledge of general fitness involved in exercise prescription and instruction. Their job is to listen to their clients’ problems about fitness, make a plan to overcome those problems and implement the plan with daily follow-up of exercises and suitable diets. Trainers measure their clients’ strengths and weaknesses, triggers etc. to help them achieve their fitness goals. Personal trainers can either work independently or work in gyms and health clubs. Their salary is usually decided upon the kind of training they are providing to a specific client.

  1. Physical Therapist:
Physical therapists own a professional degree in physiotherapy and are highly educated and experienced in the field. They help their patients recover from an injury by developing a plan, and using treatment techniques to provide aid to patient’s body movements. In many injury cases, physical therapy works better than medical therapy. So, these physiotherapists help their patients do some general exercises that can make their body function normally again. They usually work in hospitals, medical centres, health agencies, sports facilities or sometimes independently too. They earn a lot due to the technical knowledge and experience, and the medical aid they provide.

  1. Gym Owner:
Being a gym owner is probably the simplest jobs of these all, while still earning a lot. For being a gym owner, you can just have a certified course of general fitness and exercise. But more than that, you need to have knowledge about start-ups and businesses. To be smart about it, you need to have a clear idea of the framework of your gym. This means deciding the business structure, the kind of exercises you will promote, the area you will establish it in etc. Also, you must appoint trainers who have enough knowledge and experience in training & exercise. If the gym ends up becoming a successful one, you would be one of the few to live your dream and earn well.

  1. Fitness Magazine Writer/Editor:
This job fits for the kind of people who are the ‘fitness guru’ of their friends circle. Are you that friend who is always giving advices about healthy food and effective exercises? If you are, then how about becoming a fitness magazine writer/editor? This will help in nurturing that creative side of yours while you do what you love best – advice! For doing this, you must be certified in any general fitness course, diet & nutrition course etc. and you get paid well according to the magazine’s popularity. This job is convenient for people who want to follow their passion and keep their full-time job as this is part-time only.

  1. Sports trainer:
A sports trainer is usually a certified & licensed health-care professional who practices in the field of sports, athletics etc. They are sometimes specifically an expert in one sport and train their students in the particular sport to become better. You may have visited several sports clubs where there are trainers for cricket, football, tennis, swimming etc. These are the ones we are reading about right now. They choose their method of training themselves but it always requires discipline, hard work and determination. If they do well, they can get a job in national and international clubs too to train professional players who represent our country internationally. Therefore, this is an opportunistic job that pays quite well too.

  1. Sports Journalist:
This is the era of media & journalism. Hence, sports journalism has to be one of the jobs that are best suitable for people passionate about sports. These journalists do not necessarily have done a course in fitness or sports. They are professional journalists who are passionate about sports while having appropriate knowledge about it. They focus on reporting amateur and professional sporting news and events. Their daily job is to witness sports events, observe them carefully and report it to their seniors. Some of the perks of this jobs is – you get to travel, you get to go to numerous sports events and matches, you get paid very well. So, ask yourself – are you a sports fan who has a zeal for journalism?

Blog by- Plaban Pratim Saikia

The fitness industry is growing at a very rapid rate. However, organisation in this sector remains as one of the biggest challenges. There are fitness centres being run by individuals who have no experience of fitness and there’s a huge chunk of trainers who are not certified. With clients becoming more well-read, players in the industry are seeing this chunk as a threat to the industry and are, therefore, going for relaunches and re-branding, the recent case being that of Reebok Crossfit Gurugram.

The previous owner was not well accommodated and educated about the fitness sector. There was no flexibility regarding the timings. Also, there was the problem of the inability of the centre to run simultaneous classes. In terms of location, the earlier sector wasn’t very easily reachable. Also, the training rooms were not up to the mark. So the centre has to suffer huge losses and eventually had to be shut down.

Himanshu Bathla, a professional trainer himself, decided to take matter upon his hands and hence relaunched the Reebok CrossFit centre, but with a new studio, in a new location, and with new equipment. Himanshu wanted that CrossFit should not be identified with the general stigma of a gym. With an informed customer base, by planned marketing, he made sure that this was not an issue. He increased his staff members, previously from two to three members to currently nine. He even introduced yoga into CrossFit ass he felt it would cater the needs of the older generation.

Himanshu is very much disciplined in keeping his centre highly organized. He knows gyms nowadays have no criteria in recruiting their trainers. Since clients never ask, owner easily recruits people having no knowledge about health and fitness. Earlier, the centre had very few unqualified trainers to cater the huge crowd of Gurugram and people seemed completely dissatisfied with the trainers. So he is very strict in getting his trainers, and only certified trainer gets the opportunity to work in his centre. Also, he made a strict rule of keeping the trainers under a 3-month internship first and then giving them permanent positions.

Himanshu is also buoyant about the jovial response from the Reebok brand. Reebok is constantly on the lookout for coaches who can promote their philosophy – ‘Fitness is Life’ and Himanshu fits perfectly in their thinking. The trust of Reebok is one of the main factors that Himanshu feels work to his advantage in getting people to his centre. Also, due to the brand Reebok, Himanshu is able to call upon certain celebrities which helps in great promotion of his centre. Reebok also helps by providing certain equipment to the centre. In fact, equipment at Reebok CrossFit Gurugram was initially sponsored by Reebok. Himanshu feels that the constant support from the brand is helping his centre push towards the top.

Overall Himanshu is providing all the necessary investment so that his CrossFit remains updated with the ever-changing demands of regular updation. Due to the lacklustre attitude of the previous, Himanshu had to undergo huge losses first. But he was determined to give quality fitness training to his clients. He knew the health issues of the people of Gurugram, and his main focus was the better fitness of the people, irrespective of the cost he had to incur first. Also, he is thinking of expanding his franchise. He feels that with the proper knowledge and understanding, Crossfit will be able to easily apt the needs of the Indians. But before expanding he has a condition, that the owners and trainers should be certified trainers themselves. A smart and safe move though.

Negatives of Online Fitness Training

Blog by: Suryakant Tripathi

The popularity of online personal training is rising rapidly across the pond (from where we inherit so many of our fitness trends). In many ways, it’s exactly like being trained by an expert in a gym: you’re given a tailored programme that you have to fulfill in order to attain your goals. The crucial difference, of course, is that the trainer isn’t next to you when workout.

The Negatives

Nobody spotting for correct technique. Due to the remote nature of online training, by definition there is no live trainer spotting for correct technique. This could drastically reduce the efficiency of the workout, and even make it dangerous. The drawback can be mediated by enlisting the help of a live trainer to demonstrate proper technique of the prescribed exercises, or by introducing video workouts.

Know more about us at

Motivation. While a high quality program can be delivered with ease over the phone or email, there’s zero guarantee that it will be successfully completed. One of the main benefits of working with a personal trainer is that they get you through your workouts even when you don’t want to be there. That extra motivation – to actually turn up at the gym, and to push through tough workouts – just isn’t available through an online programme.

Online trainers struggle to judge progress accurately. An online trainer cannot actually watch you perform your exercises, so much of the success of the collaboration depends on a) how well workouts are tracked by the client, and b) how honest the client is about his exertion and results. It’s easy to fudge numbers over email, whereas in person it’s pretty much impossible.

Other Online Options

Online workouts don’t have to come from individual high profile trainers. Here are three alternatives that I’ve come across that offer something different: – The creators of Itrain were early adopters of online fitness workouts. It’s a U.S based company that offers very affordable and high quality à la carte workouts to be played on your mobile devices. – Clearly Possible is effectively a vetting platform for personal trainers looking to take their services online. They have a comprehensive process to evaluate the merits of trainers, and there’s also a very intuitive review system for customers. The site’s shop section offers books and video programs from top trainers. – Ibodz offers a free membership platform, tailored to your individual measurements, weight and training goal. Given that it’s free and extensive, Ibodz is well worth a look.

The rub

Online training does work (I’ve seen the results), but it’s definitely not for everyone. Normally, I recommend it to seasoned exercisers who don’t need instruction in the gym and who won’t lose motivation without the direct accountability of someone hovering over them.

Positives of Online Fitness Training

Blog by: Suryakant Tripathi

The popularity of online personal training is rising rapidly across the pond (from where we inherit so many of our fitness trends). In many ways, it’s exactly like being trained by an expert in a gym: you’re given a tailored programme that you have to fulfill in order to attain your goals. The crucial difference, of course, is that the trainer isn’t next to you when workout.

Know more about us at

The Positives

1. Access to expert advice. Many sought after and noted fitness professionals are already offering online versions of their training services. This is great for the consumer because it provides instant access to highly skilled coaches from all over the world.

A good reputation can travel a long way in the fitness community, so online training allows the everyman to work under big name trainers. I know of one trainer who works from his home in Berkshire, with the majority of his online client base in South America.

And it’s not just the big names you can seek out: online training also gives you access to specialists in specific areas. Rather than be limited to the knowledge base of the trainers at your local gym, you can call upon the advanced understanding of people from all over the world.

2. Easy to ascertain a trainer’s ability. With our digital world as socially connected as it is, you can learn a lot about a potential online trainer long before you make the first contact. Start by reading their client reviews, look at their mentions in the media and have a browse of their social media activity and article writing. You will soon get a feel for whether they are the type of individual you would be comfortable working with and if they are keeping up to date with the industry in general.

3. Less expensive. When a standout personal trainer begins to develop a reputation for delivering results, they tend to get busy very fast. The result of this is that they get booked up pretty soon and new clients find it very difficult to get sessions. Such demand inevitably leads to a rise in session prices, making the more sought after trainers too expensive for most to work with (some trainers in the UK charge £150 per hour). Many of these same trainers will be able to provide a month-long training plan for the same cost as an hour training with them.

4. Freedom of location and time. Having an online personal trainer deliver a workout program to you electronically means that you can access your workout on your mobile devices at any time and in any location, which is great for those that travel frequently or do not want to be restricted by gym opening times.

5. On-going support. Many online trainers provide comprehensive online support in the form of answers to emails, dietary guidelines and the ability to have your weekly food journal assessed. With these perks built into the initial upfront costs, you are guaranteed personal attention throughout your customer experience. Unfortunately, many trainers are reluctant to have much contact outside of one-to-one sessions, which unfortunately you won’t find out until you’ve invested a lot of your time and money.

Fitness Training On-demand: Convenience and Value for the Consumer

Blog by: Suryakant Tripathi

It’s no surprise that the same technology that brings us family face time and business meetings from remote locations has entered the world of fitness. We’ve been using exercise apps for years, and personal trainers can book sessions online through a variety of programs. Taking the next step to actually training through cyber-space is the most logical progression.

The virtual gym is a win-win for both trainers and clients; the biggest selling points being convenience and cost effectiveness. For the individual with a busy schedule, it is no longer necessary to make the time to travel to a gym. Young mothers can even meet their trainer while their babies are down for a nap. Per-session costs are usually less than the standard one-on-one charge, and no gym membership is required. In addition, most exercise modalities are offered, including yoga, Pilates, and even group classes. Online training is often considered a significant improvement over video workouts, because the instructor is live and can personalize your routine as you go.

There is a growing marketplace for virtual training, sometimes called “Skyper-cize.” Consumers can access workouts via YouTube, Google+, or any video conferencing application such as FaceTime. Companies like Gymgo, Virtufit, and Premier Fitness offer pre-vetted trainers and special packages to those who are looking to try an online trainer but don’t know where to start. The wide selection of trainers available online provides a greater range of choices and available times. Many private trainers also are adding online training to their business practices. Online training allows business to be dictated by fitness rather than the other way around.

Of course, nothing is perfect, and for all its value there are still drawbacks to virtual training. Attention to detail will lessen in comparison to a face-to-face session, and a certain level of user ability is desired and often assumed. For instance, beginning exercisers and persons with balance issues or in rehabilitation from an injury would likely not be good candidates for virtual training. Clients also need to be aware of false promises! Be sure that the trainer is truly qualified; look for trainers with a certification from an accredited organization. Find out specifically what you will be getting for your money, and request a virtual interview before making a purchase.

Virtual training is certainly the wave of the future, from group classes to one-on-one coaching and exercise, and like any new direction there are great benefits and some risks. Be open to the possibilities for your health and wellness while being mindful of potential hazards.

Fitness training: Elements of a well-rounded routine

Blog by: Suryakant Tripathi

Whether you’re a novice taking the first steps toward fitness or an exercise fanatic hoping to optimize your results, a well-rounded fitness training program is essential. Include these five elements to create a balanced routine.

Aerobic fitness

Aerobic exercise, also known as cardio or endurance activity, is the cornerstone of most fitness training programs. Aerobic exercise causes you to breathe faster and more deeply, which maximizes the amount of oxygen in your blood. The better your aerobic fitness, the more efficiently your heart, lungs and blood vessels transport oxygen throughout your body — and the easier it is to complete routine physical tasks and rise to unexpected challenges, such as running to your car in the pouring rain.

Aerobic exercise includes any physical activity that uses large muscle groups and increases your heart rate. Try walking, jogging, biking, swimming, dancing, water aerobics — even leaf raking, snow shoveling and vacuuming.

Know more about us at

For most healthy adults, the Department of Health and Human Services recommends that you get at least 150 minutes a week of moderate aerobic activity or 75 minutes a week of vigorous aerobic activity. You also can do a combination of moderate and vigorous activity. The guidelines suggest that you spread out this exercise during the course of a week.

Strength training

Muscular fitness is another key component of a fitness training program. Strength training at least twice a week can help you increase bone strength and muscular fitness. It can also help you maintain muscle mass during a weight-loss program.

Most fitness centers offer various resistance machines, free weights and other tools for strength training. But you don’t need to invest in a gym membership or expensive equipment to reap the benefits of strength training.

Hand-held weights or homemade weights — such as plastic soft drink bottles filled with water or sand — may work just as well. Resistance bands are another inexpensive option. Your own body weight counts, too. Try pushups, abdominal crunches and leg squats.

Core exercises

The muscles in your abdomen, lower back and pelvis — known as your core muscles — help protect your back and connect upper and lower body movements. Core strength is a key element of a well-rounded fitness training program.

Core exercises help train your muscles to brace the spine and enable you to use your upper and lower body muscles more effectively. So what counts as a core exercise? A core exercise is any exercise that uses the trunk of your body without support, such as abdominal crunches. You can also try various core exercises with a fitness ball.

Barkha Sonkar is basketball player she born in 24 December 1996 in Varanasi Uttar Pradesh and she currently in the IMG Academy in Florida. IMG Academy recently gave India a moment of immense pride with Satnam Singh making it to the NBA. Among the Uttar Pradesh hoopsters team, Barkha Sonkar stands out for her height. And not in the positive way, she is not the tallest, as is expected of most basketball players and neither is she the most strongly built girl around. But even at 5’3″, a height really short for a basketball player, Barkha is the backbone of the UP team, often seen switching positions to contribute more to her team. Although, as a point guard specialist, mainly active in creating a move, Barkha not only plays her part but ensures that she even contributes to her team’s points tally with some clever shooting. There is a lot of difference in the training programmes that we undergo in India and in Florida. Being a country where basketball is the most dominating sport, they concentrate on strengthening the basics and then move on to the next level. That helps extremely in gaining control over the ball and learning on-court tactics,” says Sonkar who admits that her first love was cricket but basketball interested her as a sport despite her height and she continued to follow the game religiously. Dan Barto, who is coaching eight Indian student-basketball players in the U.S. as part of a scholarship programme of IMG-Reliance, a joint venture between IMG Worldwide and the Reliance Industries, is of the view that it’s time the coaches initiate the process of popularising the sport in the country. Mission almost accomplished .. Meet Barkha Sonkar our own baller who is made us proud by finishing her school and getting scholarship in US.. I had put status many times for people to come forward and help her raise funds to support her scholarship .. Thanks to Dinesh Kumar Jonathan Rego Anjana Chowdary and a very big thanks to Ranga Sundaravadivelu sir for supporting her cause to study n play basketball in US.. We have managed her first year funds n soon Barkha will leave to follow her dreams. I started Basketball with a very different dream n goal but today I feel great to b a channel of source for these young n aspiring kids.
