AMARESH OJHA-With the fitness industry in India riding high on growth, Bengaluru based Gympik is a fitness and health aggregator that has achieved great fame in the industry.

Amaresh Ojha, the Founder and CEO of Gympik, is a renowned name in the health and fitness industry.

Gympik is an online fitness discovery platform with about 9,000 fitness centers and more than 5000 fitness professionals from 20 cities across India. Gympik sees itself as a pioneer in the industry, as it has taken a step to organize this unstructured sector.
Gympik offers cloud-based software and a personalized app for fitness centers to make their offerings more personalized.

An IIM Bangalore alumnus with multidisciplinary expertise and extensive work experience, Amaresh’s passion for Gympik evolved from the idea of marketing a platform that would help people with their fitness and health requirements and provide them with solutions to their fitness problems. The idea originated when one of Amaresh’s friends started looking for a personal trainer. After much forage, unable to find a trainer, it was then that Amaresh realized that   finding efficient personal trainers and good fitness institutions were a painstaking job. This gap between the demand for fitness centers and trainers and the supply of the same, led to the business idea of starting an aggregator site for fitness centers.

Now, due to increased demand, the services have spread to Tier II and Tier III cities as well. Gympik gets over a lakh unique visitors from tier II cities out of a total of three lakh unique visitors. This Rs 100 crore venture has clocked in revenue of Rs 4 crore in the current year. Gympik increased profits by 200 percent from the past year and are optimistic to break even by the middle of the next year.

RUPA SINGH

BLOG BY : Riya Rathore

Rupa is riding the horses since the age of four . she is first Indian riding Rupa Singh is India’s first woman jockey at 33 years old. She has recently won at the Annamalai Plate in Ooty on April 14. Other than this, she has 720 other wins in her kitty. So far, she has won seven championships and few international races. I suffered a lot of rejection initially because I am a woman. I raced with ordinary and average horses for almost three years. It was only after I won 50 races with average horses that I could ride favourites.” jockeying in India is pretty much a male-dominated sport, and the logic applied is that men have the required stamina and physical strength to control a horse. But here’s the story of 33-year-old Rupa Singh, who has broken all those stereotypes and is the country’s first female jockey.  Rupa got the media—and people— in Indian as well as international horse racing circuit  by winning over 720 races and 7 championships, and recently added  another trophy to her kitty by winning Annamalai Plate held in Ooty.“We don’t have the stamina and physical strength that our male counterparts have.We can get the strategy right but it takes immense strength to control a horse and a race. It is only through rigorous training that I have increased my stamina. I have always undergone the same training as the male jockeys.”“My grandfather Ugam Singh used to train the British Army horses here. My father Narpat and brother Ravinder have both been jockey and trainer. So I used to ride from my school days.”“Riding a horse is risky and I broke my collar bone and ankle after I had taken up racing as a profession. But in my childhood, I was more scared of my father than the horse. But once I started racing, my passion for the sport grew. As I won a few races, I wanted to show the world that women can be as good as men.” I had raced in Germany , Abu Dhabi and the Netherlands but the Poland race was really special. I never thought I would win riding against famous jockeys of the world.”“I feel proud and sad at the same time for my achievements. I am perhaps living with a false hope that I can inspire at least one girl to take up the sport.
