Kickboxing – fitness course

Blog By – Dr Rohit – BFY Faculty

Kickboxing Fitness combines and modifies martial arts and boxing techniques and movements into a sound workout. There are many aspects of health and fitness that can potentially be improved through this method of training. Cardiovascular endurance & strength, muscular endurance, and flexibility can be improved, depending on the training stimulus utilized. Muscular strength and power can also be enhanced by including training activities and/or methods that specifically promote improvement in those particular fitness components. As skill and fitness levels improve, the physical stress placed on the body can be gradually and progressively increased to establish an environment of continuous improvement.

Kickboxing Fitness trainer course is primarily focused on providing safe and effective exercise activities for participants. It is a fitness certification program that utilizes techniques, movements and combinations of movements from boxing, karate, kickboxing, and self-defence training.

Safety and effectiveness are two important considerations when teaching or leading fitness classes utilizing martial art /boxing movements and techniques.

Kickboxing is typically a competitive (combat) contact sports requiring quick, powerful ,and explosive movements intended to contact an opponents body. Program Development

There are different ways to structure or develop kickboxing fitness certification classes. The potential options for program structure and class formats could include any of the following :

Program Structure – Skill/Conditioning Breakdown.

Orientation Classes – To market effectively, advertised as a teaching class, not a workout. This is also an opportune time for beginning instructors to hone their knowledge and skills. Recommend 30 minute duration. Class length and class description should alleviate possible intimidation of potentially new, deconditioned members.

Although she had her first encounter with cricket when she saw the 1992 Cricket World Cup, but what, left an impression on her was Belinda Clark’s victory lap after Australia vs. New Zealand 1997 Women’s World Cup final. Cathryn Fitzpatrick, former Australian Women’s team bowler, was one of the reasons she decided to pursue a career in cricket. Watching the former pacer in action with cricketing greats like Belinda Clark and Debbie Hockey, she decided to take up cricket more seriously. She used to wake up at 4:30 in the morning to catch the local train and reach the practice session. She lives 80 km away from Kolkata, where the practise session took place. Many times she missed the train and couldn’t make it to the practise but she never gave up. Like other Indian parents, Jhulan’s parents’ too wanted her to concentrate more on studies than cricket.

Then there are always sexiest “well-wishers.” “I was asked aren’t you ashamed to play cricket?” Jhulan said in an interview. “My first brush with sexism came as a child in Chakdaha, West Bengal, when boys of a nearby locality refused to play with us seeing a girl in our team. That was the first time I felt belittled.” Well are you now? I am pretty sure they’ll be eating their words now.

Indian spearhead, debuted at the International stage in the year 2002 at the age of 19. She was given Indian captaincy in 2008 and in 2010 World Cup earned India the third place. She held the captaincy till 2011. She is also quite a handy batter known for hitting big sixes.

Devendra Jhajharia: Khel Ratna

Blog by: Raj Kishan

Life is going to throw hurdles, traps, temptations, problems and what not. Eventually you’d figure out how to get over them or around them. But, the keyword here is; How! How you recover from what life’s throwing at you is what matter! That is what, the story of Devendra Jhajharia, the Khel Ratna award winner, Indian Paralympics’ javelin thrower (competing in F46 events), exhibits; overcoming from what life throws at you!

Devendra Jhajharia, now 36, when was just eight year old, lost his left hand. Jhajharia, at a tender boyhood age, was climbing a tree when he accidentally caught a live electric cable and was electrocuted, he received medical treatment immediately, however, on the suggestions of doctors, the incident resulted in amputation of the left hand.

Dronacharya Awardee trainer and coach R.D Singh spotted young Devendra in 1997 during a school sports day event. He encouraged him to take up sports full time and helped Devendra on his early endeavours. When he moved to college in 2000, Coach Dr. Satyapal Singh introduced him to the sport of javelin throw.

Devendra said in an interview,”I remember playing with able-bodied kids when I was young, and they would say ‘why is he wasting his time’. The challenge for me began even before I stepped on to the playing field. My fight has been of changing mindsets, of proving people wrong. I began with a small dream of representing my country and look where that persistence has brought me.” Indeed! He fought and fought hard and what he achieved is now history!

Devendra Jhajharia, who hails from the Churu District in Rajasthan, won the Gold medal at the FESPIC Games in Korea in the year 2002. Two years later, in 2004, Jhajharia qualified for his first Paralympics Games in Athens. He rewrote the history books, by winning Gold by bettering his own record, by achieving a throw of 63.97m. What makes his feat even more remarkable is that, he actually managed to defend is Gold 12 years later again. His accomplishments won him recommendations for the country’s highest sporting honour; Khel Ratna.

And the two-time Paralympics gold medalist was handed the Khel Ratna Award by India’s 14th President Ramnath Kovind, he became the first Indian Para athlete to receive the country’s highest sporting honour; a proud moment for sports fraternity in India.

Former Indian Railways employee, Jhajharia now works with Sports authority of India, making and shaping youths for tomorrow.

Speaking about his achievements Devendra says, “I hope this honour inspires more and more athletes from the small towns of our country to chase their dreams. This award shows that you can achieve what many believe is unachievable,” making the saying nothing is impossible proven right again!
