Sydney: Saina Nehwal and P.V.Sindhu reached second round of the Australian Open. Indian men Kidambi Srikanth and Sai Praneeth also entered the Second round. Fifth seed P.V.Sindhu reached the second round defeating japan’s Sayaki Sato for 21-17, 14-21, 21-16. P.V.Sindhu lost the second match against Sayaki, even she managed to enter second round by defeating her in the last set.
Saina Nehwal defeated Sung Ji Hyun of Korea for 21-10 and 21-16. The win was very easy for Saina, while P.V. Sindhu fought well enter the Second round.
Sai Praneeth defeated Indonesia’s Tommy Sugiarto for 10-21, 21-12, 21-10. Kidambi Srikanth defeated Taipei’s Kan Chao Yu for 21-13, 21-16.
Other India players faced defeat in the Australian Open Super series. H.S. Prannoy faced defeat against Rajiv Ouseph of England for 21-19, 21-13. Siril Verma was defeated by Hans- Kristian Solberg Vittinghus of Denmark for 21-16 and 21-8. Ajay Jayaram faced a defeat after winning the first set. He lost to Ng Ka Long Angus of Honh Kong for 14-21, 21-10 and 21-9. P. Kashyap also faced a lose. He was defeated by Son Wan Ho of Korea for the score- 21-18, 14-21 and 21-15.
In doubles, Ashwini Ponnappa and Sikki.N. Reddy defeated Australian pair of Hsuan Yu Wendy Chen and Jennifer Tam for 21-11 and 21-13. Ranki Reddy and Ashwini Ponnappa faced defeat in the mixed doubles against Hong Kong pair Chung Hei Reginald Lee and Hoi Wah Chau for 21-13 and 21-17.
