Rio Olympics 2016: Vinesh Phogat crashes out due to injury (Wrestling)

It was another heartbreak for the Indian contingent as their biggest medal hope in women’s wrestling, Vinesh Phogat, suffered a devastating injury to her right knee just 2 minutes into her quarter-final match against China’s Sun Yanan.

Leading 1-0, Vinesh faced a takedown attempt from Yanan which led to an ugly twist of the right leg, and which earned the latter two points before the injury could even be noticed. Helplessly grimacing in pain, the Glasgow Commonwealth gold medallist had to forfeit the contest as the stretcher was brought out to carry her off the centre after heavily strapping up her affected leg.

This is a very disappointing end to Vinesh’s campaign, as she seemed in pole position to get into the medal round before disaster struck. All Indian fans would be hoping that she recovers soon, and is fit and raring to fight in the upcoming events.
