India’s Laxmirani Majhi has been eliminated from the women’s individual event after a 1-7 loss against Slovakian Alexandra Longova at the Sambadrome on Monday. Majhi came into this match, having finished 43rd in the Ranking Round on Friday whereas Longova had finished 22nd.

After a heartbreaking quarterfinal loss against Russia in the team event yesterday, Majhi failed to turn the tables as she fell in four sets against the 57th-ranked Longova in the Round of 64.

Majhi started off poorly with just 25 (8, 9, 8) points in the first set. Longova hit 10, 9, 8 to take the first set by 27-25 set-points. The second set was no different as Longova managed a score of 28 (9, 9, 10) while Laxirani could only manage 26 (8, 9, 9).

Majhi was on the verge of elimination in the third set, but under immense pressure, she hit a 10 with her last arrow to tie the set. She couldn’t keep the momentum going and lost the fourth set by 24-27 set-points.
