India’s medal hopes from shooting at the 2016 Olympics were dashed after Jitu Rai finished last in the men’s 10m air pistol event at the National Shooting Range in Deodoro in Rio. Jitu could only manage a disappointing 78.7 points from his first 8 shots and was hence the first shooter to be eliminated.
However, it was Vietnam’s Xuan Vinh Hoang who was electric since the start and bagged the gold medal in the event.
Jitu Rai had started the final round with disappointing scores as he only had 28.5 points after the first 3 shots – 38.6 points after 4 shots. He went on to get only 58.9 points after 6 shots and was hence eliminated after the 8th shot.
