Rio Olympics 2016: Dattu Bhokanal progress to quarterfinals (Rowing)

In a great opening showing, Dattu Bhokanal got India off to a rousing start in the rowing men’s single sculls event. After a drop in the middle, Dattu picked up the pace to finish third with a timing of 7:21.67 and progress to the quarterfinals.

  • Bhokanal finishes third in the first heat. Cuba’s Angel Fournier Rodriguez finishes first followed by Mexico’s Juan Carlos.
  • After 1500m, Dattu Bhokanal is third in the ranking. 11 seconds shy of the leader.

Bhokanal started the event on a strong note by getting the best start of the six. He pulled away but Fournier Rodriguez caught up with him after the 500m mark and the Mexican soon followed at the next mark. Bhokanal was widely expected to qualify for the further rounds and he’s done so in a confident manner.
