P.T.Usha is the first Indian woman to enter in to the finals of Olympics. her full name is Pilavullakandi Thekkeparambil Usha. She was born in 27 June 1964 in Kozhikode district of Kerala. She is known as ‘Payyoli Express’ and ‘Queen of Indian Track and field’.
She was brought by O.M.Nambiyar and later he got Dronacharya award. She got many medals in the National Games in her teenage. She finished fifth in the selection round in the 1979 Moscow Olympics, when she was just a girl of 16. She got Gold medal in the 1982 Asian Games, which became the turning point of her life. She entered the final of Los Angles Olympics and finished fourth in the final. She lost the bronze for a difference of micro seconds.
She showed her talent in the 1985 Jakarta Asian Championship with five gold and one Bronze in her bag. She became the great woman athlete in the Asian Championship 1985 In the Seoul Asian Games she bagged 4 gold and a silver. In that Asian games she got the Adidas shoe for the best Athlete.
She got Arjuna Award in 1984. She became Asia’s best Woman Athlete in the years of 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987 and 1989. She got the world trophy for the best Athlete in 1985 and 1986.
She is now training Indian athletes in her own school- ‘Usha School of Athletics’. She trained many international players.
