Bhubaneswar: India won the Asian Athletics Championship in Kalinga Stadium. India became the table topper with 12 gold, 5 silver and 12 bronze. In total India got 29 medals from 42 events. China is second with 8 gold, 7 silver and 5 bronze and a total of 20 medals. Kazakhstan is in third with 4 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze. They got a total of 8 medals. Iran is in fourth with 4 gold and one bronze. In the fifth position Vietnam was there. The had two gold and two silver.
In the final day of the meet G.Lakshmanan got his second gold in the meet after the first gold in the 5000m and yesterday he won gold in 10,000m. He won two tickets for the world championship in London. In the 10000m, Gopi Thonakal of India won the silver. In men’s 4*400m relay India won gold. The four members of team are Kunju Muhammed, Amoj Jacob, Muhammed Anas and Arokia Rajiv. In Men’s Javelin Neeraj Chopra, The U-20 champion won the gold and Davinder Singh won the bronze. In the Heptathlon Swapna Barman won gold and Purnlma Hembram won Bronze. Women’s relay team won 4*400m relay. The members of the team are Debashree Mazumdar, M.R.Poovamma, Nirmala Sheoran and Jisna Mathew.
