Harbhajan Singh : The Turbanator

Off-spinner Harbhajan-Singh-Pleased-with-his-bowling-performance caught the public imagination in 2001 after taking 32 wickets in three Tests which helped India beat Australia 2-1 in that famous series. The Aussies under Steve Waugh had come to India on the back of straight 16 wins in Tests and were overwhelming favourites.
Harbhajan was one of the few Indian players in that series who could be credited with stopping the Aussies in their tracks. He also took India’s first ever Test hat-trick in that series. The nickname “Turbanator” was the byproduct of that series.Off-spinner Harbhajan Singh caught the public imagination in 2001 after taking 32 wickets in three Tests which helped India beat Australia 2-1 in that famous series. Harbhajan is the second highest wicket-taker for India in Tests, only behind Anil Kumble. He was part of the teams that won the 2007 World T20 and 2011 World Cup. Because of his unique action, Harbhajan extracts more bounce than others and that made him a dangerous bowler. Matthew Hayden would certainly vouch for that.
Harbhajan is also one of the most successful bowlers in Indian Premier League history. He has won two trophies with Mumbai Indians. Be that as it may, he courted quite a few controversies as well like the Monkeygate involving Andrew Symonds in early 2008, and then was banned from the IPL for an entire season after slapping Sreesanth after a match later in the year. Questions were also raised over his bowling action a couple of times but he worked hard to iron out the kinks and was later cleared to bowl by the ICC.
