Success is ideally measured by the number of lives you change. Prema Rajaram, a famous runner and a tennis player from Kolkata, has changed many lives. She has transformed people’s bodies by helping them achieve their maximum potential. She is an inspiration to many runners and has made sure that people fall in love with fitness training and holistic wellness. In an email interview, she replies to our questions in great details.

1. Briefly describe yourself and your current profession.

I have been a journalist for around 11 years and currently I am a senior correspondent for CNN News18 which involves a lot of physical work at odd hours. It also involves a lot of stress and mental fatigue with news gathering information and keeping abreast with news in West Bengal.

2. What was your first step towards fitness? Were you maintaining an active lifestyle prior to that step?

I played tennis in school and then in college. I started walking and jogging at the lakes in Southern Avenue in 2008 and would do yoga as well. I injured my back and was asked by the doctor not to jog for a year but still keep my weight in check. That was a turning point. I joined the gym in 2009. After 7 years of gymming and 2 years of yoga, which I rejoined later, I got addicted to running 10 km almost every Sunday. There was no looking back after that. I wasn’t maintaining a very static lifestyle, though yes, I didn’t look and feel as good as when I had started exercising.

3. What was your first run/workout? What was your duration on the first day?

My first run was in August 2015 and I ran 10km. Before that for a brief while I ran in March at the Lakes for about 3-5km, but didn’t have any record of it.

4. Please share the experience of your first run/workout. How did it feel post run/workout?

Gymming on the first day ended with aches and pains but since the doctor had told me to keep my weight down due to my back issue, I was determined to exercise. My first run of 10km was a great feeling though it ended with sore muscles and taking a Calpol (Paracetamol tablet) in the evening.

5. How do you maintain your fitness levels despite being a journalist?

I wake up early and go for a run and try fitting in other forms of strength training exercises, cycling and yoga. I try to sleep early to get adequate sleep. The days I have to leave for work early, I go for a short run. When I am travelling for work, I carry my running attire and make sure I run there. If I travel to smaller towns for work, I avoid running but do strength training exercises like squats, lunges, sit ups and skipping in the room.

6. Please tell us more about your daily fitness regimen and diet.

I wake up around 5-5:30am for a run and post that I do strength training or yoga as well. Some times  I skip running and take a break, and just focus on yoga, cycling or strength training. Diet is mostly about eating every two and a half hours with my last meal by 8pm. The most important thing is to hydrate well.

7. What have been your achievements since you started running?

1. Calcutta Swimming Club marathon, 2016- First in 10km guest category.
2. TCS 10km run in 2016- Stood 3rd.
3. Sohra Cherrapunji Full marathon- Stood 3rd. This was my first full marathon.
I have also helped new runners and my aim is to build the running community in Kolkata and to make it stronger and get more people fitter.

8. Future plans and what lies ahead for you?

Keep running, focus on strength training in 2018 and improving on pace, even if it means running shorter distances. Eventually want to take on bigger challenges like a Ladakh marathon and an ultra marathon. When I am better at running, I will attempt triathlons too.

9. What’s your inspiration and motivation both in fitness industry and otherwise? Which sports icons do you idolize?
My inspiration is normal people like myself who have respected their mind and bodies and come this far.
My sports icons are Sania Mirza and Sachin Tendulkar for their focus and determination.

10. Anything you’d like to say to novice runners and fitness enthusiasts?

Keep running but go slow on the number of miles you increase. Running is bound to give you injuries if you are not systematic as we have not been athletes for years and our bodies are not used to running such miles. So respect your body and gradually increase the miles.

11. Final quote.

It’s always hard to get out of your comfort zone. But it is harder to accept the regret that you decided to stay within your comfort zone. So live the most of the one life you have got and take a leap of faith as the finest steel goes through the hottest fire.

What is the difference between dream and mission? Many joins the various academies but there are some who join for their future goals. Some likes to study and some want that study to be part of life. Here in BFY people learn everyday new things which they don’t know in real life as well. Out faculty is like mentor for many students. On asking why people should join BFY Varun said “My advice is to must join BFY for your better future”. Your advices are what you have got from the academy and then you advice others as well. We are happy Varun liked our work.

When you enter fitness industry after looking at discipline and dedication of people you want to become like them or you want get better than others. Every fitness loving guy want to open a GYM but opening a gym is not what you want making it one of the best is what everyone dream of. There are many GYMs and Fitness Centre but the one who survives is the one who is having best result. Everything need discipline and fitness is about discipline if you want your goal. After asking about future plans of Varun Chouhan he said “I would like to open one of the best GYM” now his answer is already saying best means he want run his GYM all over world.

Yashovardhan Kanodia is a banker and currently working at ICICI Bank for the last two years. He has been a sportsman all his life, having played cricket, football, rugby, hockey and athletics in school.
His first step towards fitness was after completing MBA and coming back to Kolkata. The MBA pressure (pressure to party) had ensured packing of a few extra pounds. For the sake of his first love i.e. cricket, he wanted to lose weight and get fitter for the upcoming season. He joined a gym and the very first thing he incorporated in his regimen was running. A first run of 2 km was completed in around 13 minutes.
“Honestly I wasn’t maintaining a strictly active lifestyle. I was captaining my university cricket team but wasn’t paying any attention to the food I was eating or the liquid I wasdrinking”.
His first long run was Airtel Run For Education, 2016, Kolkata, 10 kms in 56 minutes. “Can’t describe you the feeling in words,” beams Yashovardhan.
Post run he went and played a 20-20 cricket match and then his legs gave way. “Being a novice runner I really didn’t know how important were cool down exercises,” he admits sheepishly.

Despite being a corporate banker and working for 12 hours a day, he wakes up early especially during winter as his cricket and running training overlap. He runs and then goes for his cricket practice. If somehow there isn’t time to run in the morning, he makes sure that he runs after 8pm post his work. “It’s not really tough. It’s just the right mindset.”
“I don’t eat anything that is fried and avoid fast food as much as possible. Have reduced drinking to almost zero. Basically I try avoiding unwanted calories. Most of the runs except during winter I run bare-chested which means I need to get rid of my tummy,” he says flashing his trademark wide grin.
Well every marathon finished is an achievement altogether but he has three podium finishes to his credit. They are-
1. Winner- Hua Hin Marathon – 32 kms in 3:02 hours
2. Third- Far East Ultrathon- 25 kms in 2:20 hours
3. BRC- 10 kms in 47:50 mins
In the future there is just running and cricket for him. “I plan to do a 50 km ultra-run next year and maybe a triathlon in the upcoming years. Details of these I will share once I complete them.”
His inspiration and motivation has been his mother who was a natural athlete during her days. She has always been supportive of every decision on and off the field. Roger Federer, Sir Alex Ferguson and Zlatan Ibramovich are his sporting idols.
“Do what you want and what your body supports. That’s what I do. The competition is not against others but against yourself. Usually people won’t support or will have negative reviews about your thing. Just remember Jesus had 12 followers while Hitler had over a million and we all know how it paved through.”
His final quote- “GMNB!”

Thakur Anoop Singh is pure example of fitness and fame. Anoop Singh Thakur was born on 23 March 1990, Mumbai, India. He was pilot before entering into fame industry or you can say in media industry. He is known for his role in Mahabharata as Dhhritrashtra. Mahabharata was itself epic and made many artist famous later on and he was one of them. He is a fitness lover and fitness icon as well. In 2015 his dedication and hard work pays of for him by Winning World’s Best Body Building Championship. After that he started getting many offers in film industry. Cause of his eye catching physique he is demanded by action films and he have athletic ability as well which adds a little advantage of selecting him for action roles.

You can’t get famous in just one day he purely shown the example of what patience can do. Some just give up when they see that they are not getting results but giving up is never the option of life. You want something then work for it don’t just dream for it or ask for it why I am not getting. Some sacrifices their dream by leaving it for other but they don’t understand that the spot there is of yours not of him they realize it later.

Mary Kom, the famous Indian boxer, belongs to the tribal community of the India’s north eastern state, Manipur. She was born at Kangathei Village, Moirang Lamkhai. She got inspiration from the Manipuri male boxer named Dingko Singh. Although, she was interested towards the Martial arts ad boxing from her early childhood.

Since, the boxing is not considered as the proper sport for the woman therefore initially she tried to keep her boxing interest secret from her family. First time she came into the boxing to support her family financially. She got famous publically when she won the First State Level Invitation women’s boxing championship in the Manipur in the year 2000 as a best boxer.

From that time she began to play the boxing at the international level at her 18 which brought her getting various medals and honors. Once upon a time, she had stolen her luggage and passport on the way of going to the selection camp in the Bangkok, Thailand for her first Asian Women’s Boxing Championships, but she never lost her patience even promised herself for working hard.

She plays the boxing using her        own strategy and never let her             opponent to get their arms free. It is known as she works hard at least five to six hours daily to maintain herself healthy and fit. I still remember I was castigated by my father who said with a battered and bruised face, I should not expect to get married. He was furious that I took to boxing – a taboo for women – and he did not have the slightest idea about it. But my passion for the sport had got the better of me and I thank my cousins who coaxed and cajoled my father into eventually giving his nod. I’m happy that I did not let anybody down,” she told.
