Paying attention to your body‘s pH can help you stay slim. If you think back to chemistry class, you may recall comparing an acid versus a base or the importance of pH balance. The literal meaning of pH is the potential of hydrogen. It is a measure of alkaline and acidic levels in the body. Our body pH is probably one of the most important elements affecting our health status and body function. If a person‘s pH sways too far out of range, the cells can become toxic.


What in the cell is going on?

A whirl of activity is taking place in every cell. A healthy body is determined by the health of each of its single cells. Diseases originate at the cellular level. Healthy cells create healthy tissues. Healthy tissues create healthy organs like the heart and lungs. Healthy organs create healthy systems like the endocrine or the immune system. Healthy systems make up a healthy body.

Think of the 75 trillion cells that make up your body as your nation. The brain is the President. The cells are the citizens in various shapes, sizes and capabilities to perform a variety of tasks. Some reside in large cities that are the organs and some in the outskirts, for example the finger nails. No matter where they reside, each cellular citizen has an important function for the nation – the body.

Is your blood stream a river of life or a river of death and disease?


What you eat , drink , breathe, level of physical activity and stress levels will either nourish the 75 trillion cells or contaminate the cells by slow poisoning of the blood stream . The blood stream is a flowing river to all the cells for nourishment and for removal of acidic waste residues. The entire metabolic process depends on a balanced pH. A chronically acidic body pH corrodes the body tissues. Just as a banana ferments and rots from inside out, humans could look healthy from the outside but could be rotting and decaying from the inside.

When the pH balance is too high or too low in a person s body, health problems arise. Acidity lowers the body s ability to absorb nutrients found in foods. To neutralize the excessive acid in the system, minerals like calcium and potassium get taken from bones, thereby weakening them. Having an acidic pH is like driving your car with the light on. The car will continue to run without any apparent problem but eventually it will simply stop.

Is your pH making you fat ?


When the human body is in an acidic state, it will try to protect itself by storing acid in fat cells. The body will make more fat cells to store unwanted acids for its own protection. This process may save your vital organs from severe damage. By returning to a balanced pH level, you may lose unwanted fat cells.

Effect of Exercise on pH level

When you exercise there is a drop in your pH level. This is mainly due to lactic acid production and increased carbon dioxide levels . A decreasing blood pH can lead to fatigue. Regular exercise can help improve your body s ability to maintain a balanced pH.As the body adapts to exercise, it is able to use aerobic metabolism for energy production. This reduces the amount of carbon dioxide in the blood. The lactic acid is shuttled into the mitochondria where it can be used for energy production . This reduces the amount of lactic acid released into the blood stream.

The body regularly deals with naturally occurring acids that are the by-products of respiration, metabolism, cellular breakdown and exercise . The acidic environment of the stomach is needed for process food. It also helps to protect the body from pathogenic organisms that should not be there. So the goal is not to think of acidic as “bad” and alkaline as “good “. All you need to do is to listen to your body and find the balance.

If the human body is balanced in pH and nutrients, it is not susceptible to disease.
